Ravishing coastlines, dramatic mountainscapes, picturesque villages all dressed in white and blue. Is there a better place in the world for photo and film making? Absolutely not. Santorini is a true nature’s  miracle, and the startling sight of the submerged caldera almost encircled by sheer lava-layered cliffs – topped off by cliff top towns that look like a dusting of icing sugar – will always be the perfect background for professional cinematographers and hobbyists.

Filmmakers just love Santorini for the unique environment and lighting conditions that provides all over the year. In Santorini were shot various international movies, video clips and of course documentaries.

A favorite movie is the “Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants” – directed by Ken Kwapis, filmed in 2005, starring Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrara and Blake Lively. Based on a series of young adult novels, this movie and its sequel (also partly filmed in Santorini three years later) narrate a feel-good tale of love and friendship between four very close friends and a pair of jeans that fits them all. Scenes of this Hollywood movie were shot in Helios Cave House the most beautiful and desirable spot on the island of Santorini and use the distinctive front door and facade.

Summer Lovers is a 1982 film written and directed by Randal Kleiser, starring Peter Gallagher, Daryl Hannah and Valerie Quennessen, and filmed on location on the island of Santorini, Greece. Twenty six years later the house used for the movie is still alive and well in Oia!
